Network of Muslim African Women

This group is open to all women who wish to discuss African women's political participation.

The Network of Muslim African women gives not only visibility to its members but also the authority that comes from having the backing of a solidarity union. The Network of Muslim African women believes that Muslim African women must also operate within the framework of African integration, both regional and continental, and collaborate on issues that affect them. The network provides opportunities for strengthening cultural cross-fertilization with its goal of bringing people closer together and for adding to UNDP’s ongoing support of efforts aimed at mainstreaming gender into national policies in an effort to achieve gender equality in Africa.

The goals of the Network of Muslim African Women are:
1. To promote and strengthen the capacity of members to improve their political participation, their leadership, and to increase their numbers in public posts with a goal of overcoming challenges faced by Muslim women throughout the region, especially gender-based violence in crisis and conflict situations.

2. To set up a platform for knowledge production and management and for the sharing of experiences on their status and rights.

3. To disseminate information on best practices and different experiences in the area of political participation.

This discussion circle is intended to continue the dialogue from the launch, but is open to all who are interested in empowering Muslim women in Africa in decision-making.
